Hierarchal Divine Liturgy on the Second Sunday of Pascha

On the Second Sunday after Pascha, May 5, the interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Cathedral. His Grace was co-served by cathedral clergy.

At the Little Entrance, Bishop Matthew awarded cathedral clerics, Hieromonk John (Schieffler) the right to wear the gold pectoral cross and acting hierarchal senior deacon Alexey Golubov the right the wear the kamilavka.

During the Liturgy, petitions were raised for the unity of the Orthodox Church and the preservation of the Church from divisions and schisms. After the Augmented Litany, Bishop Matthew read a prayer for peace in Ukraine.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Matthew addressed the faithful with a sermon dedicated to the Gospel reading of the day. Afterwards, he congratulated the clergy and parishioners on the Holy Resurrection of Christ. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and All Russia, His Grace presented clerics and laborers of the cathedral with the anniversary medal dedicated to "The 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church."

Interaction between the archpastor, clergy and parishioners of the cathedral continued during a festive luncheon in the cathedral refectory.
