On Saturday February 1, the clergy of the Atlantic States Deanery celebrated Divine Liturgy at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Philadelphia, PA. The service was led by the Atlantic States Dean, Archpriest John Vass, rector of Holy Trinity Church in Baltimore, MD, and co-served by Archpriest Michael Lepa, (interim rector of St. Nicholas Church in Wilkes Barre, PA), Archpriest Basil Micek (rector of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Scranton, PA), Archpriest Luka Novakovic (parish rector), Archpriest Alexey Bocharnikov (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Chester, PA), Priest Gregory Winsky (cleric of Holy Trinity), Hieromonk Sylvester (Kozhin; rector of St. Nicholas Church in Reading, PA), Deacon Michael Ardan (parish cleric) and Deacon Michael Sidorochev (cleric of St. Nicholas Church in Chester, PA).
Following the Divine Service, a luncheon was served in the church hall generously coordinated by the Parish Council President Nadine Sokoluk and members of the Parish Council.
After lunch the clergy of the deanery gathered for a meeting to discuss pastoral and administrative issues facing the parishes. Also participating in the meeting were Archpriest Mark Shinn, rector of St. Andrew Church in Philadelphia, PA, Priest Alexander Tsygankov, cleric of St. Andrew Church, Subdeacon Timothy and Nicholas Micek from Saints Peter and Paul Church in Scranton, PA and Archpriest Andrey Kovalev (rector of St. Gregory the Theologian Church in Tampa, FL) via phone conference. Discussion topics included updates on the celebration plans for the 50th Anniversary of the Patriarchal Parishes, parish administration and bylaws, and special deanery-wide endeavors. All were encouraged by the dialog and ideas presented. The next meeting is planned for June 2020.
