On Sunday, November 20, St. Innocent of Irkutsk Church in Redford, Michigan marked another significant milestone with the installation of six, large panel icons on the exterior façade of their holy temple.
These six icons include images of Our Lord, the Theotokos, and St. Innocent of Irkutsk, along saints who are particularly meaningful to the community, including: St. John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco, Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, and St. Moses the Ethiopian. These icons now stand as a witness to the surrounding neighborhoods (which directly border Detroit) of both the grace contained in the holy temple and the growing spiritual life of the parish family.
Moreover, as the prayers for the blessing of icons make clear, these icons also stand guard over those who pray regularly in this holy place. It is the fervent prayer of the parishioners of St. Innocent that, as peace and life and growth flourish there, those same divine gifts might spill over into Redford and, in time, into the whole world!
