On November 2, Demetrius Soul Saturday and the feast of Great Martyr Artemius, the interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited St. Nicholas Church in Bayonne, NJ where he celebrated Divine Liturgy.
The hierarch was joyfully greeted at the church entrance by students of the parish school as well as members of the parish council. His Grace was concelebrated by dean of the Eastern States and parish rector, Archpriest Mikhail Kapchits, Acting Chancellor of the Patriarchal Parishes Abbot Nicodemus (Balyasnikov), Priest Artemy Kulikovsky (rector of All Saints of Russia Church in Pine Bush, NY), Priest Dimitry Sukhorukov & Deacon Nicholas Arabidze (parish clerics). The diaconal rite was led by Deacon Alexis Golubov (director of the hierarchal protocol).
At the Little Entrance, for his zealous service for the good of the Church and in connection with his namesday Bishop Matthew awarded Priest Artemy his first liturgical award - the right to wear the nabedrennik.
During the service, Vladyka offered up special prayers for the repose of reposed hierarchs, clergy and laity of the Russian Orthodox Church who carried out their obediences in North America.
At the end of the Liturgy, the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA & Canada was warmly greeted by rector of the church, Fr. Mikhail Kapchits. Vladyka thanked the rector for the warm welcome and the significant assistance that he provides Bishop Matthew in his archpastoral labors in the USA, as well as his multifaceted sacrificial service to people both as an Orthodox pastor and as a physician – Doctor of Medical Sciences.
At the intercession of Bishop Matthew, in recognition of his diligent labors and 60th birthday , His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill of Moscow and All Rus' awarded Archpriest Mikhail Kapchits a high award of the Russian Orthodox Church – the Order of St. Luke the Confessor (Voino-Yasenetsky), 3rd degree.
Vladyka cordially congratulated the awarded clergy on their well-deserved signs of attention from the Holy Synod, thanked the participants of the divine service for their joint prayers and called upon God's blessing on everyone so that they could be worthy successors of our predecessors in the holy work of preaching Orthodoxy in North America.
