On November 15-16, with the blessing of Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Priest Joshua Genig (dean of the Central States) participated in the funeral services for the newly departed Archbishop Peter of Chicago & Mid-America representing the Moscow Patriarchate.
On Friday evening, Fr. Joshua was present to greet the arrival of the earthly remains of the archbishop and prayed in the altar during the evening service and parastas, together with His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Bishop John of Caracas and South America and Bishop James of Sonora, Vicar of the Western American Diocese, as well as clergy of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America.
On Saturday morning, Metropolitan Nicholas, the aforementioned & guest hierarchs and numerous clergy celebrated Divine Liturgy. Immediately following the liturgy, His Eminence officiated the funeral service.
These divine services were a blessing for all who attended and prayed, indicating quite clearly how deeply loved and respected the late archbishop was, not only by his clergy, but also by the faithful of his diocese.
