Unique Exhibit of Russian Icons in Massachusetts

On February 27, the Icon Museum and Research Center in Clinton, Massachusetts, opened an exhibition of Oleg Kushnirsky's unique collection of Russian icons. The exhibition features icons from the 17th to 20th centuries by masters of Palekh, Guslitsa, Mstera, and other renowned icon-painting schools.
The exhibition was blessed by Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the United States and Canada. In his address, the bishop stated, in part: “The icons collected and carefully preserved by Oleg Semenovich Kushnirsky are monuments to the distinctive culture of Russian icon painting from previous centuries, witnesses to the centuries-old history of Russian holiness and the eternal human longing for the lost Paradise, an expression of love for God and aspiration for Him. These are precisely the feelings that Orthodox Christians are experiencing these days as they enter the holy days of Great Lent.
I sincerely thank all the organizers and staff of this event, all who carefully preserve these sacred relics and reveal their beauty to all who wish. I am confident that contemplating the icons on display will warm the hearts not only of Russian compatriots but will also serve all visitors to the exhibition interested in Russian culture and history, including Orthodox clergy and parishioners in the United States of America who have never visited the lands of Holy Rus'.”
We invite you to visit the exhibition, and we believe that this journey will bring you the bright spiritual joy of encountering your native history and the living art of ancient Russian icon painting.

The organizers will donate an art album, "Russian Icons of the 17th-Early 20th Centuries," edited by Anna Ivannikova (Russian Museum), to each parish of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The exhibition will run from February 27 to August 20, 2026.
Museum address: 203 Union Street, Clinton, Massachusetts 01510
