On May 4, 2026, with the blessing of Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh—Interim Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada—visited the Diocesan Cathedral of Our Lady "Joy of All Who Sorrow" in San Francisco, CA.
His Grace venerated the cathedral’s holy items and celebrated a moleben to Holy Hierarch & Wonderworker John of Shanghai before his holy relics. At the conclusion of the service, in accordance with tradition, Bishop Matthew, anointed the faithful with holy oil drawn from the perpetual lamp burning before the relics of Saint John. Praying during the service alongside the hierarch were his accompanying clergy: Priest Michael Kozyrev—dean of St. Nicholas Cathedral in San Francisco and dean of the Parishes of the Western States—and his personal secretary, Subdeacon Nicholas Trubnikov.
His Grace also visited the crypt of the cathedral, the original resting place of Saint John prior to the uncovering of his incorrupt relics.
